Essie Mae Douglas-Shears was born February 23, 1925 in Marianna, Arkansas to Mr. Leroy Douglas and Mrs. Rosella McKnight-Douglas. She was the second of twenty-one children.
She accepted Jesus Christ many years ago as her personal Lord and Savior. She was a faithful member of Bible Deliverance Center in Marianna, Arkansas where Milton Hall is the Pastor. She served as Sunday School Superintendent, board member, member of the prayer band, Sunday School teacher, and sang with the B.D.C. Caravans.
